I’ve been to China 3 or 4 times for both business and pleasure. I’ve found girls from the largest cities like Beijing to be less approachable to non-Asian guys than other cities. Shanghai has a different flavor though and is more cosmopolitan. The girls are classier, but more materialistic too. If you’re a successful businessman you’ll do better. Girls of southern China tend to be some of the prettiest anywhere.
China overall is growing at a phenomenal rate. Despite the Communist regime, Communism is slowly fading (thank god for that). The current generation is far more “hip” and worldly-aware than any previous generation. The government still censors a lot, but more world news gets into China now then ever before, bringing the rest of the world closer to China, and China closer to the rest of the world. Travelling in China is not the hassle it used to be. Tourists are far more welcome, and non-Asians can be seen in any large city; both travelers and business people alike.
It is far easier now to strike up a conversation with a Chinese girl now than before also; English is taught pretty much universally in all schools and is a required subject. Here’s a staggering fact- Soon China will have more English speaking people than any other country on the planet. When traveling in China it is a good idea to know at least some simple phrases in Mandarin (the national language). Girls seem genuinely impressed when they see a foreigner try to speak their language (hint hint).
